On the morning of September 14, Richard A. Williams, President of Heriot-Watt University, visited our university, and Vice President Cai Yonglian met with the guests in Conference Room 201 of Yates Hall. Relevant personnel from International Affairs Office and College of Optoelectronics accompanied the meeting, which was hosted by Xu Lin, deputy director of International Affairs Office.
On behalf of USST Cai Yonglian warmly welcomed the visit of Heriot-Watt University (HWU), and introduced USST's history, discipline characteristics, talent cultivation and international exchanges. She said that internationalization is a distinctive feature of USST, and in recent years the university has been actively exploring new modes and paths of exchange and cooperation with overseas universities. UK is one of the most important educational partner countries, and the cooperation exploration started in the late 90s. In 2006, USST co-founded the Sino-British College with 9 universities in the UK, which is well known in the field of Sino-British cooperation in school running. It is hoped that in the future, the two universities can give full play to their respective advantages, and carry out in-depth cooperation in scientific research cooperation, talent cultivation, international summer schools, etc., so as to promote the high-quality development of internationalized education of the two universities.
Richard A. Williams expressed his gratitude for the warm reception of USST, and introduced the history of Heriot-Watt University, faculties and departments, disciplinary advantages, characteristics of overseas education, student employment, etc. He also shared the functions of Heriot-Watt University's Global Center for Research, Innovation and Discovery and Center for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. He proposed that Heriot-Watt University attaches great importance to the cooperation with Chinese universities, and is very much looking forward to establishing a friendly cooperative relationship with USST, as well as welcoming the faculty and students of USST to exchange visits to Heriot-Watt University.
During the meeting, the two universities signed a memorandum of cooperation, and both sides carried out in-depth exchanges on the cooperation in the field of computer science, and reached a consensus on future cooperation in carrying out joint undergraduate and postgraduate cultivation programs, scientific research cooperation, and exchange of visits between faculty and students.
